Hello, many of you (and Kilo most of you) have been requesting an archive repack tool like the old unpacker. Now thanks to Corvax you can repack the original archive of the game if you have a lot of files in the mods folder.

http://www.pacificstorm.net/files/mods/SMATool.zip

To create a new archive:
1. Use "Create Archive" button
2. Drag files from your Explorer window to running SMATool application
3. Click on "Save Archive" button

To extract files:
1. Click on "Open Archive"
2. Select a folder to extract
3. Click on "Extract Files"

You might need to install .NET Framework 2.0 if you don\t have it you can download it from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Some things you need to know, they may be fixed later on if there would be more time:
* SMATool has SMA2 archives support only (i.e. that of PSA's).
* New archives are not compressed
* The utility will only unpack the entire content of a selected folder

PS: Use at your own risk. Hasn't been tested extensively. Please backup your game data before you use it.

How to extract/repack a archive with the new tool

1) move ( copy/paste) your game's archive to your sma unpacker's folder

2) create a new folder in there called data

3) open your tool and select file/open archive

4) click on data of the archive breakdown shown in the tool's window

5) select file/extract and navigate to the data folder you created and hit ok

6) once you have made your changes then select file/create archive

7) in the new window select and drag your data folder that you extracted the archive to , to the tools window. It will show something like c:\documents and settings..blah blah...data

8 ) select file/save archive and navigate to your packed arch0000.sma that you extracted selecting overwrite once the option pops up

9) let it repack your archive with the changes you have made

10) once done copy/paste to your ps allies data folder ensuring the first thing you ever did was backing up your original archive !

11) launch the game !

notes: repacking and unpacking takes time and the size of the new repacked archive is double what the original was to about 1. 6 gigs in size. Repacked archive tested and works with changes made to it. Also works for partial extractions/repacks.

[quote="Ulixes"]if you have a lot of files in the mods folder.

Is that a problem for the game?

Got over 300 files in my mod folder :o but I change add/remove very often so I'm not redy for a pack yet.

no prob Ulixes, thanks again to Corvax for doing it. Hopefully a bit down the road he can get sma compression going for the packer.

Is that a problem for the game?

the big thing was the graphics mods as someone noticed a slowdown using base terrain graphics mod through the mods folder. I would imagine though that having a ton in there may cause some slowdown, just logical. I noticed a little performance boost moving all my mods out of the mods folder. I had 460 files in there lmao.

but I change add/remove very often so I'm not redy for a pack yet.

I hear ya, I'd just do the "pack the ones you will eventually not be changing" deal and leave the ones ya change constantly in there...

That Problem has been reported before. See

http://www.pacificstorm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3203

Check out the last 3 or 4 posts in this thread. I think you may only be able to extract parts of the arch0003.sma.

Yes, I can extract the remaining ships.zip individually, but the GameParas.xml, OEModifications.xml and OEPrototypes.xml at the end failed to do so!! 8)

The file before these must have an unrecognizable character in it that causes the crash. I haven't tried to run this Mod, so I'm guessing this from the fact that it fails on the KI-43 Rack.

It is in binary form. You need to convert it with attrconv.exe to make it readable.
Search for it. You'll find it somewhere in this forum.
