Ok I should know better than to add a ton of mods all at once but for some reason I am getting an exception error and not sure why.

It is saying could not find material Trees_shadows , but that doesnt seem like any of the files I added.

I did the ship, planes and building skins, looked through the building files and didnt see anything for trees so not sure how this file is missing.

Anyway to try and solve this without redoing from scratch?

shouldn't be a problem adding any mods since they don't change code. maybe you fudged up repacking the archooo0.sma or placed something into the wrong spot.

not really since you don't know what you messed up lol. I suggest that you take your backup arch0000.sma.original and use it. First delete your modified/repacked archooo.sma then simply rename your backup arch0000.sma.original the repacker made for you to arch0000.sma It should work now without crashes but you'll have to add the mods again then repack the arch0000.sma

P.S. the steelmonsters log will always show missing things in it for anyone.

The easy version "how to"

1) install the unpacker then run it.

2) click "open game sma file" under file extractor heading to the top right and once the window opens navigate to your pacific storm data folder and select the arch0000.sma ( double click it )

3) it will now have opened it and you should see a file list in the left file list window.

4) now click "select all" button at the top of that window

5) under the file extractor heading to the right select the "extract selected files(s)" button. It will now extract it to your unpacker's "extractedfiles" folder.

6) go to your ps unpacker program folder. example C:\Program Files\PS Unpacker

7) you will see 3 folders. ExtractedFiles where it just extracted the archive to, ModdedFiles is the one where you will place any mods into and a temp folder . Open your "extractedfiles" folder and right click copy the archive0000 folder then paste in into your "moddedfiles" folder. Then follow the installation instructions included with any mod. They will refer to the arch0000 folder always in the "moddedfiles" folder. Once ya do it once, it's easy as pie.

Once ya have the files you want in the "moddedfiles" folder ( for ease create a shortcut on your desktop to the moddedfiles folder ) then launch ps unpacker again and again navigate to your pacific storm/data/arch0000.sma file and open it into the unpacker as done the first time. Then all you have to do is click pack sma button to the right ( under the file packer ( sma) header ) , let it repack the sma. When it prompts you to let it overwrite your game .sma archive just click yes it will automatically make a backup for you. And that's it, just play as normal.

repeat for other archive files. except #1 obviously Very Happy

note that for the commanders fix and more commanders mod, you need only use the more commanders mod since it incorporates the nameless admiral and other previous fixes into it. Do not install both.

any further probs just post.

Ok I dont know what I seem to be doing wrong but somehow I keep overwriting my plane skins.

This time I used 1 mod at a time and loaded game to make sure no conflicts. Did my plane skins and loaded and all the planes had new paint jobs (nice job btw).

Now I go back and load the modded bomb pack and pilot mods. These were placed into a commin folder but yet when I launched game after that all my planes had original paint jobs again. Unless somehow I am extracting the original SMA file and not my revised one, but I didnt think they showed up.

Would be nice to have each old SMA overwritten with a sequential extension, it seems it keeps original and last one done but none in between.

Altho playing with plane skins it would be cool to see those new paint jobs and after so many missions the worn look.

hmm that is weird, I have all installed mods in my game and no probs at all. what you could do is just make a copy of the moddedfiles arch000 file folder before each mod addition that way if the next one goes wrong you can just copy paste the previous archooo file and overwrite then just repack the arch0000.sma and no need to redo it all again.

The only 2 arch0000 sma files you should have in your data folder are arch0000.sma.original made after your first repack of the original sma and the modified arch0000.sma . can't think of any other reason because once it's changed and modified it keeps the previous modified files thus your skins should never change unless you change them. Other then that, make sure your not opening the backup arch0000,sma by accident, then repacking to the new arch0000.sma thus that to me would explain why you are back to the old base skins. Remember when you open to repack you don't have to extract again once you initially extracted the arch0000.sma and don't have to copy past the arch0000 file folder from the ps unpacker/extractedfiles folder to the ps unpacker/moddedfiles folder more then once ( I know it sounds dumb but I posted it anyway). Another thing that might sound dumb is to make sure your not adding any included screenshots from ANY mod to the moddedfiles folder. They are there for you to see what your adding as they look in the game for guidance only.

yep i suggested that, maybe if the dev's know a way they could make allies so you could attach a specific skin to a plane's model date even since the game has 3 dif model dates already.

If you still have probs then I suggest you post ( in 1 post lol ) exactly what you are doing as you do it until you hit the error or problem ( all the steps ) so i can re create your steps myself and be better able to see what you may be doing wrong. I know it's a lengthy approach but it may be the only way to follow what you are doing and help you find a solution and see where the problem lies.

while going through the plane skins mod files again i noticed 2 files that don't belong. In the p=80 folder under white you will see P80_star_map.pdf and P80_star_map.jpg . Delete both of these files as they are not suppose to be there. I'll have to update the downloads. be sure to also delete them from the ps unpacker moddedfiles/arch0000/ etc folder for the p 80 if using the white skin.

Actually was gonna ask you about this plane, noticed those files b4 but just added them, but the other thing I noticed was under the chrome folder you had a must go in folder, but it wasnt in showing that under the p80 folder so wasnt sure if it only must go in if using chrome.

the "must go in" folder means that any files in it ( files shared by all skins for that plane that are usually the spectaculars ) must go into that airplanes folder regardless of which skin you chose from. Also note ( I know it seems dumb again but some peeps may get this confused so I'll post it anyhow ) that for the subfolders example:

plane folder: G8N
choice subfolders: must go in, alternate camo, redone,brown_green and plush camo

These choice sub folders are not placed into the G8N folder of the extracted arch0000 sma file folder of the \PS Unpacker\ModdedFiles\arch0000\data\units\graphics\planes folder. They are just there as dividers for the dif skin types. You just place the contents of the choice folders into the \planes\G8N etc folders.

for the p-80, the "must go in" folder under chrome means that the p80_spec.dds is shared by all 3 chrome version skins though they have 3 dif highlight colors to chose from and the white skin uses it's own modified p80_spec.dds that is in the white choice subfolder.

Note that the 1.3 patch, I believe, is a new updated GameParams.xml thus if you are using any mods that require changes to the GameParams.xml you will have to add them again. Any mods that give you the file is the release 1.2 file version thus if you use these mods GameParams.xml your changes will be back to V 1.2 game Parameters. Just use the mods included "how to add it to your existing Gameparams.xml" info if required for a mod. If you find any other probs with mods versus the 1.3 patch update post them here.
